The Western Massachusetts fisherman spotted the alligator and caught it on video in West Springfield on Monday, Dec. 6, while fishing in the Westerfield River, according to 22 News WWLP.
The non-profit organization West Springfield Environmental Committee, said on Facebook it has been receiving reports of the gator for several months.
The organization said the size estimates for the gator have varied from 18 inches to four feet and was that it was not likely a pet released into the river as gators are not native to New England.
Sightings over the summer focused in the vicinity of the Morgan/Sullivan Bridge (Westfield River).
An earlier search by the state has been called off after nothing came of it.
